Nathan Pence is a 20 year old aspiring jazz bassist in the East Coast area. While he has played in a variety of bands and projects over the years, at age 14 he began his strong interest in jazz, particularly. He is a proud alum of the JazzU program, run by Jazz St. Louis, two years of which were as a member of the Jazz St. Louis All-Stars. Nathan’s career as a musician began to take shape at the age of 16, when he had the opportunity to play his first professional gig with Willie Akins. He has since had the opportunity to perform with musicians Peter Martin, Montez Coleman, Delfeayo Marsalis, Terell Stafford, Bobby Watson, Russell Gunn, Ronald Bruner Jr., Tia Fuller, Sean Jones, Peter Schlamb, Victor Goines, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Quartet, Brian Owens, Bobby Shew, Christopher McBride, Houston Person and Bruce Barth. He has performed at The Apollo Theater Cafe, Jazz at the Bistro, Powell Symphony Hall, and The Blue Note in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan.  In November of 2016, he will tour to Krun, Germany with pianist Abu.  Nathan has professionally recorded with Brian Owens and the Message, Nao Yoshioka, The Phil Dunlap Quintet and Montez Coleman. Recently, Nathan completed a tour in Japan with Brian Owens and the Message. He attends Temple University under the direction of Terell Stafford and David Wong.
